Islay is accessed by Caledonian MacBrayne ferries from Kennacraig on the Kintyre peninsula, in a journey taking around 2.5hrs. The ferries run to either Port Ellen in the south or Port Askaig in the north, and pre-booking is required if bringing a vehicle, and highly recommended if travelling in the summer months. There are also flights available from Glasgow to Islay Airport operated by Loganair and Hebridean Air.
Jura is accessed via a short ferry hop from Port Askaig on Islay, on a boat operated by the local council. Tickets can be pre-bought online or purchased from the captain on the day if there is space. Please note that the relief boat sometimes used on the Jura route is such that the captain may require you to reverse on and/or off the ferry.
